L'Arc de Triomphe by HJIL This place is a lot of fun if you enjoy shopping. All of the stores are Mega-versions of the same store anywhere else. The car dealerships all have concepts cars too, and other things to entertain you. A couple of them have cafes. McDonalds has CD listening stands so you can listen to the latest french music while you are there. You choose from a few CD's and listen at your own pace. I listened to a great French hip-hop album while I was waiting for my husband to get the food. It was a very long line so I heard most of the CD. Leave a Comment

The Champes lit for the holidays by Callavetta We visited Paris over the Christmas holidays and the Champes Elyses was beautifully lit up. After visiting the Arch de Triumph, we hung in a cafe sipping vin chaud until the lights went on and then walked the lenght to Place de Concorde. Stand at the Place de Concorde and look towards the Arch de Triumph. On a clear day you can even see the modern Arch beyond. Take the time to stroll up the Champes (or down! it's easier walking) , looking into shop windows and stopping at one of the cafes to enjoy a glass of wine. Sure, they are touristy, crowded and expensive, but you're in Paris, my friend! Leave a Comment

The Champs Elysées is definitely one of the most famous streets in the world. It has a length of 1880 metres and is 71 metres wide, leading from the Place de la Concorde towards the Place de l´Étoile. The name of the street comes from the Greek Mythology. There was a story telling about Elysean Fields, where the blessed lives. The parc of which the Champs-Elysées was made out, used to carry this name. TheRond Point des Champs-Elysées devides the avenue into two totally different pieces. The eastern part, towards the Place de la Concorde, is a peaceful parc, with kiosks, flower-beds and places to relax. The other side is totally different. This is the area of big companies, shoppingmalls, expensive restaurants, fast-food restaurants and tourism agencies. The Champs-Elysées has always been an area for huge events. Memorial Marches to celebrate the Liberation of the second World War, the place where Hitler himself showed the German power during the war, but also the place where the biggest cycling event in the world finishes every year: the Tour de France, and recently the place where thousands of French people did their best to get the Olympic Games of 2010 to their city. This street is a paradise for those who love good life, good food and good shopping. The building of Louis Vuiton is an eye catcher for shopping-tourists and window-shoppers (like me) alike. There are some big name stores to go into. One of my favourites is the parfumerie Sephora. There are also a lot of restaurants to choose from, but be careful because most of them are really pricey!

Champs Elysees near l'Arc de Triomphe by Ewingjr98 The Champs Elysees is the Beverly Hills and Broadway of France, all rolled into one. Here you will see ritzy sidewalk cafes, classy French women walking their poodles, and expensive designer clothing stores. If you are not in a huge rush, this is a great place to take a leisurely 2 kilometer stroll on your way between the Place de la Concorde and the Arc D'Triomphe as there are huge sidewalks lined with leafy trees, French flags, and beauceau people. This street was designed as a city park in the 1660s, but few traces remain of its tranquil beginnings as you will watch the crowds and traffic roaring up and down the street. Leave a Comment

View from the top of the Arc de Triomphe by Albernfrau, 2 more photos Viewing the Champs Elysee from the Arc de Triomphe is amazing, especially at night! I could stand up there for hours and marvel at the traffic below. How there aren't accidents constantly I don't know. Stroll down the Champs Elysee and enjoy the people watching. Lots to see. In December it was so beautiful as all the Christmas lights were up. Leave a Comment

Champs Elysees by deeper_blue Les Champs Elysees is probably the most well known avenue in Europe. Built in the 17th Century it is steeped in history and character. Today it is home to a plethora of chain stores and restaurants by day, and clubs, cabarets and bustling crowds by night. Leave a Comment

The Champs-Élysées, literally means the "Elysian Fields", is a broad and busy avenue. Its full name is actually "Avenue des Champs-Élysées". It is one of the most famous streets in the world because of the cinemas, cafés, boutiques, designer brandnames and luxury specialty shops that line both side of the avenue. The name refers to the Elysian Fields, the place of the blessed in Greek mythology. The Champs-Élysées has been called La plus belle avenue du monde ("The most beautiful avenue in the world"). The avenue runs for 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) from the Place de la Concorde in the east, with its Obelisk, to the Place Charles de Gaulle (formerly the Place de l'Étoile) in the west, location of the Arc de Triomphe. If you stand in the middle of the avenue, on the concrete island that divides the road, you can see the Arc de Triomphe on one end of the avenue, and the big Obelisk on the other end. The Champs-Élysées is a great place for shopping and people watching. Just make sure when you get there, take great care of your wallets because you will be very tempted to shop till you drop! LOL...

view from the ARC by mindcrime At metro station "Charles de Gaulle-Etoile" is the ARC DE TRIOMPHE. Napoleon built it after his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805 but it finished in 1836. Its the largest in the world at 50 metres high. There is a Tourist Info near in case you stil dont have a map etc With 8 euros go up to the Arc and admire the traffic of the 12 avenue that start from here. One of them is the famous CHAMPS ELYSEES. You can walk the 2.2km avenue until PLACE de la CONCORDE, the largest square of the city. Here the guilotine was set for the execution of Louis XVI, Maria Antoinette and almost 3000 other people in period 1793-1795 The Ovelisque is a copy of the real one in Egypt. There are also 8 statues that symbol the main cities of France(Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Rouen, Strasbourg) at the corners of the square. Place de la Concorde is near of Tuileries Garden that is nice for a small walk until the entrance of the Louvre(in case you want to walk more in this huge but great museum)
