Even though the price can be steep, it is worth going there one time to get the feel for what it is all about. A long time ago, I seem to recall somewhere over $100 to see a show; must be more now. The area that the building is located has always felt dirty to me and a bit unsafe, especially at night. There can be some street people that you do not want to talk about tourism with there.
The prices will no be for the timid. For some shows, it is now reaching $250 US, before that cheap denomination gets cheaper. About 10 years ago it still was $120-150 for shows

Visiting Moulin Rouge is a must while traveling in Paris, France. If not for the Hollywood movie recognition (Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor), the history of an 1889 French cabaret and adult musical entertainment center (currently) should entice you to take a stroll by.

I was a tad surprised when I visited Moulin Rouge in 2005 because I expected the red windmill to be bigger and more prominent in the Paris skyline. Much to my surprise, the facade of the 1800's cabaret resembled a Disney land attraction.

moulin rouge

Famous as it is, it looks pretty boring in daytime! Still it is the most famous of the Paris cabaret clubs, immortalised on canvas by Toulouse-Lautrec and on the big screen by the blockbuster film. These days its a magnet for package tourists who visit for the expensive "dinner and show" style entertainment with can cans and glitz.

The Moulin Rouge is not only for Cabaret. It is also open for event reservation like Congresses, Seminars, Gala lunches or dinners, Fashion parades, TV Cast, Special Events, & Press Conferences.

But of course the Moulin Rouge is highlighting the current show of shows. A troupe of international artists with spectacular presentation of music and dance with those sparkling rhinestones and sequins. Can you imagine how spectacular their show will be with those uniquely designed and at least a thousand colourful costumes?

For more detailed information regarding reservation on shows and other events, please visit their website I provided below.

You will definitely be looking for gift items to be brought home. Thirty meters from the Moulin Rouge is the Gift Shop which is open during the day from 10:00AM to 7:00PM from Tuesday to Saturday. You can have a selection of a variety of souvenirs from Ashtrays, Bags, Books, Caps, CD, DVD, Jewelry, Key rings, Pens, Playing cards, Postcards, Scarfs, T-Shirts, Umbrellas, and much much more....

The Moulin Rouge is situated in the red light district Montmartre and it is famous for the large red imitation windmill on its roof.

Over the past hundred years or so the Moulin Rouge has been a popular tourist destination because it offers musical dance entertainment for adults.

moulin rouge

the moulin rouge (red windmill) night club is the most famous in paris. they offer las vegas style shows ending with offenbach's "orpheus in the underworld" and the famous can-can. the shows are expensive and you will get a better table if you book the dinner show but it is an interesting experience. reservations are required.

I was taking photos through the car window on our way to Sacre Cour and the view of this strange building caught my eye at once. Even if you're not a fan of nightlife or didn't like the movie with the same name - just have a look at "Red Mill".

Moulin Rouge by day

An easy walk down from Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. The Moulin Rouge club is in one of the seedier parts of Paris. By day it feels fairly innocuous, but at night it definitely feels more sinister. The area around is full of strip clubs, and if the bouncers in these clubs feel you might be pointing your camera a little too close to their club, they will come after you, and they aren't the sort of people to mess with!

The Moulin Rouge has recently been immortalised in a Hollywood film, and it has been made famous for the racey and rather saucy routines that went on inside.

The nearest Metro is Blanche.

A little red windmill

One of the more recognisable icons of Paris is the 'Red Windmill', which sounds far more alluring when it is said in French as "The Moulin Rouge".

Indeed, the street it is situated on sounds far better when intoned as "Pee-gale" , rather than the English tendency (especially among older men) to pronounce it "Pig - alley"

The windmill itself is a leftover from the times when there were actually about 30 windmills in this area of Paris, although the one we see today has been altered and re-built several times since the Moulin Rouge began trading in 1889.

It is rather a shame that the other feature it was well known for in the early days disappeared in 1906 - it consisted of a giant artificial elephant left over from the world's fair when the Eiffel tower was bulit.

Gentleman only could ascend one of the legs of the thing internally, and then be treated to the girations of a belly dancer, actually in the belly of the elephant !

I'm not making this stuff up, honest. Wouldn't that be great if they could re-introduce it. It might even be worth going there, instead of just taking a picture and wondering why some people pay so much to go inside the joint.. (see Tourist trap tips)

Well, we didn't try a show in Moulin Rouge and I like to think that this is the highlight of this high class night club, renowned for the French can-can.

Otherwise a famous name and a specific facade…
