Wearing the name of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and surrounded a century ago by artists' studios and cafes, Pigalle of today looks more like the "red light" district of Paris.
Although the place is renowned all over the world, here is no significant monument, just cabarets, nightclubs, bars and sex shops.
This is the red light district area of Paris, and I must add that this was the only place that I visited in Paris where I felt a little unsafe! It was also very dirty.
The place is so seedy and lined with cinemas and sex shops.
But I guess that its a must see attraction!
Pigalle is the city's red light and amusement district. As opposed to other red light districts, this is not at all a seedy area, you'll see families strolling through the streets and some of Paris' most famous clubs (such as the Moulin Rouge) can be found here, too. It's really great to see how liberal Parisians are about sex and nudity. The chair you see on the pic is one of the most fun tourist attractions in Pigalle. It's in the window front of the 'Erotic Museum' and it's so funny to stay there for a while and watch the reactions of the people walking by.
