I wish I knew the name of this Ugly building .. but i dont...i googled it and apparently Paris is known for its ugly buildings .. but i dont believe that too be true
know i'm saying this is a tip because the view was fantastic .. i noticed in Europe they make tourist climb the attraction they came to see .. like pisa climb the leaning towers 1000 steps for 20 euros .. (and they make you pay) ...
but this was a building you should do .. its 5 euros to take a lift to the 56th floor and you see a great view of the entire city .through the glass windows.. and theres a cafe upstairs
and if you choice you can walk up to the roof on the 59th floor and see it all ...
i recommend going at night .. i went during the day and it was nice but i saw pics of the ngiht shots and it looks amazing .. city of lights and all
Skip going up the Eiffel tower and head instead for the top of the Montparnasse skyscraper (it has its own subway station). The views are spectacular, and as you can see on the photo, you will see the Tower and the Le Defense behind it; on a clear day you may even see the Monmartre promontory.
The Tour Montparnasse stands in the south of the south of the city, next to the train station...so if you are taking the metro take the metro to Montparnasse Bienvenue and when you leave the station the tower will be right in front of you.
The tower stands at 200 metres tall, it costs 8euro to go to the top on the 59th floor, there is a gallery on the 56th floor and this costs less 7euro per person.
The views from here are spectacular...you can see the Eiffel Tower and its relativley quick to go up - there are nowhere near the queues that you would experience at the Eiffel Tower....cheaper too for superb views!
Here is a picture of Tour Montparnasse. Tour has many meanings in French including "Tower." To get to Montparnasse Tour, simply take Green No. 6 Metro to Montparnasse Bienvenue Station which is located on South Bank.
If you have,nt got a head for hieghts do not go up this 60 floor building!! The lift speeds you up at something like 2 floors per second, it is extremely fast. The views are excetpional once up there, if you dont fancy that there is a hugh store at the base of the building to while your time away shopping!
Like soaring prices you go up......with an extra fast elevator.....till the very top....
The view over Paris is wonderful........
Off season it is not too crowded but as you can see in the photo the wind is almost blowing me off the top ....
Inside there was hot tea and hot chocolate and wonderful French pastry......but all the time I could feel the high building move and shiver in the wind......I know that it is necessary but I don't like that: I prefer climbing high mountains instead....
YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLIMB HERE, THAT REALLY WOULD BE ASKED TO MUCH BUT AN ELEVATOR WILL TAKE YOU TO THE TOP FLOOR OF THE : TOUR MAINE-MONTPARNASSE IN THE 15th Departement of Paris.
It is 210 metres in height
262 above sea level
the foundation is 70 metres in the ground
it weighs 120.000 tons
the surface of the windows is 39.000 square metres.
there are 56 floors, 7 elevators that will reach the summit in 40 sec. (keeop your hands on your stomach!!).
We went onto the roof where the wind played with my hair and clothes and made me shiver but itwas very worthwhile..
After that tea inside (topfloor) and cake and...some souvenirs in the shop up there.
The only thing that frightened me a little was feeling the movement of the building on that very windy day, I felt it shiver and shake.....
Another way to view Paris from the sky is the Tour Montparnasse.I must say that I prefer the Eiffeltower but It is not so crowded and you have a nice view over the city.On the 56th floor you can see Paris,no matter what weather it is,on the 59th floor (209m) is an open air terrace. You can see up to a 40km radius.
'La tour de Montpernasse' is a very big tower in Montpernasse, Paris (more than 200 metres high), situated on a hill . On top of the tower you have a splendid view on Paris in all directions. The tower has an elevator that will get you in 38 seconds (almost) on top of the tower.
However the fare to get on top is not cheap, but if you want to have a splendid view for taking pictures of Paris it might be worth its money.
If you want a cheap way of aerial view the whole Paris city than go to Montparnsse. This is 56 storied building is a good replacement of Eiffel Tower. It just coast 6.60 euros to go on the roof of this building.
It is must see activity as you can enjoy fresh air as well as the know how about the city.
It is open till late so you can enjoy the Paris night as well.
The next best thing to seeing Paris from a helicopter. From the open deck on top of the 60-story building it's possible to see all of Paris. The Parisian hate the building, and joke that it's the best place to see Paris from above, exactly because it's the only place in town where the building itself can't be seen (and it has a great view of the Eiffel Tower). It's an ugly, 1970's tower, rising high from the beautiful low apartment buildings in Montparnasse.
But there's a great photo exposition of old Paris there, and a restaurant with a wonderful name: Le Ciel de Paris.
If you want to get a great view of Paris, without the long lineups that the Eiffel Tower has, try the Tour (Tower) Montparnasse. The 59th floor is the open air terrace, and gives you an awesome view of the city. Plus you can get the Eiffel Tower in a photo of the city.
La Tour de Montparnasse offers another great view of the city--second only to that of the Eiffel Tower. It's the perfect place to watch the sunset and see all the city lights come on.
I took a series of pictures to form this collage of a panoramic shot of Paris as seen from the top of Tour Montparnasse looking towards the Seine River.
This is super Great when the weather is good..You can see much from Paris and also the Eiffel tower!!Whit 24 sec you are above!!
A great vieuw!!A must to do!!
