La Défense, Paris
The huge 35 storey office building complex in the 15th district is-in my opinion-not worth a visit. From the Champs Elysees you can see it in the distance at one end. It's a tremendously large square-shaped building. You take a high-speed elevator up and come down and that's about it. That's what we did as part of our sightseeing tour a few years after it was built (1985).
Unique Suggestions: Don't even bother to visit. It's not worth the 7 euro admission.
Fun Alternatives: Visit the other more typical and scenic sights.
It is a big square and a bunch of office buildings. Other than a small shopping mall below ground it is just not worth the effort to go and visit. We were pretty dissapointed in it.
Unique Suggestions: Turn around and go back down into the Metro and go someplace else.
Fun Alternatives: Stop at Arc de Triomphe. At least you have some sights to see, brasseries to drink at and world class shopping.
The view from the top of the big arch (La Grande Arche) is disappointing, very limited. .
Unique Suggestions: On the other hand, there are always cool expositions on the top floor: last summer there was one with photographs of NY and 9/11.
Fun Alternatives: Great shopping-centers at the La Défense complex.
