A tourist trap ?
I don't understand how the Seine can be listed among the tourist traps as long as you don't fall in the water and as long as you don't expect the river boats to serve a three stars Michelin dinner!
A cruise on the Seine, especially at night, will reveal all the well lighted monuments. There are many. I'm not aware of any greater scenery than the banks of the Seine not only the famous and so many monuments, but also the bridges and houses with their homogeneous Haussmann style.
The river Seine is not as wide as the Tames or the Rhine but is so more beautiful when crossing Paris. Not because of the river itself but because of the scenery on the banks of the Seine.
Of course it all depends with whom you are sharing your cruise boat: screaming barbarians or well educated people!

Seine Cruises-- the ultimate tourist trap!
It sounds like a lovely idea... floating along the Seine, admiring the lights of Paris as the moon shines overhead.
The reality is that you're crammed onto a boat with a couple hundred other tourists (at least half of whom will be badly behaved high school kids who scream and holler the whole time).
You'll be given a headset (which will only work if you're lucky) and can then listen to descriptions of various city landmarks in your language. Again, this sounds like a nice idea... but you've probably already seen these landmarks close up and read about them in your guidebook. Very little of the information is new and different.
Some people might really enjoy the Seine cruises, but I think there are better ways to see the city.
Unique Suggestions: Accept that it is not going to be a nice, quiet, romantic ride. Try not to strangle the loud, obnoxious teenagers and turn up the volume on your headset you that you can partially block them out.
Fun Alternatives: Just walking along the length of the Seine provides a much better glimpse of the city.

Seine River Cruise - A Nice Place to Nap
The Seine Sightseeing Cruise boards near the Eiffel Tower. After buying a ticket and waiting in line, you get on a crowded boat. There are limited spots with a good enough view to take pictures. Little phones are by every seat to translate the tour information into many different languages. It's a waste of time.
Unique Suggestions: Sleep. I had been up for around a day straight, and I used this time to sleep. It was a nice nap.
Fun Alternatives: I ended up seeing every place on the Seine tour during my stay in Paris. Unless you are a history buff and need to know everything about the monuments in Paris, I'd suggest skipping this cruise and seeing everything close up.

River Cruise - Bateaux Mouches
Bateaux Mouches itself is representative of the numerous dinner cruise operators in Paris. Their counterpart www.cometoparis.com is a dishonest booking agent looking to rip off customers. Take my advice and stay away from cometoparis.com, you will be glad you did.
Fun Alternatives: Book it either with your hotel or on the tour companies site. DO NOT USE WWW.COMETOPARIS.COM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES YOU ARE LIKELY TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND IT WILL RESULT IN A DIFFICULT CREDIT CARD DISPUTE WHEN YOU ARE THROUGH.
A river trip
This isn't the worst tourist trap...you get a nice view of different places along the Seine.
Watch out for the teenagers on the banks of the river, they scream to get your attention and then moon you!

The tour boat trips down the Seine River. What you see is many of the sites along the Seine from a boat point of view. Did not seem very interesting to me. If you are interesting see the bottom side of many of the bridges that you will pass under, I say skip this. Better yet walk along the Seine River. Much more interesting and you will meet some of Paris’s locals. On the tour boat guess what, you will meet fellow tourists.
Seine River Dinner Cruises are not worth it!
I am an avid sightseer and foodie so a romantic dinner on the Seine River sounded like a great way to enjoy both food and see the sights of the Most Romantic City in the World at night. However, I was highly disappointed on both fronts during our dinner cruise with Bateaux Parisiens. Not surprisingly, the dinner cruise was pricey, which is not a big deal if we feel like we get our moneys worth. The food was okay but nothing spectacular. I would also forgive this if we had wonderful views during the cruise. However, despite having a window seat, it was very hard to see many of the sights because of the glass that the boat is enclosed into. The glass combined with the lighting on the boat made it impossible to take any photos without a horrible glare.
Unique Suggestions: Book your tickets online in advance. You may get a discount. Request a window seat but you may not get it.
Fun Alternatives: If you want to take a river cruise, skip the dinner cruises and go with a regular sightseeing one.

It is a tourist trap and it's not off the beaten path, but I can recomend the guided boat trip. You get good info on the city.
