Air, rail, or bus. Most international airlines with routes to/within Europe fly into Paris. Be careful, however: There are three airports, Charles de Gaulle, Orly, and Le Bourget. Make sure you know where your flight is going to, and, if you're connecting, where your connection leaves from. If you drive, park your car, leave it, and take the superb Metro system, which will get you almost anywhere in town. And if the Metro won't, the buses will. Passes are available for the Metro, which not only save time by allowing you to walk past the lines (queues), but they save you money, too! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

From London, you can take the Eurorail now. For cheaper alternative, take British Rail and Ferry from Dover or Newhaven to Calais or Dieppe resp. Use the Metro (underground) by using the 'carnet' for moving around and walk, walk and walk. Blend with the locals and be a Parisian when in Paris and absorp the atmosphere. That's what we call travelling and living. Merci, Au revoir!! Theme: Train

by lorino The Metro / RER is the best way to get around Paris. Although somewhat confusing at first, keep an eye on the different colored routes on the maps. You'll understand quickly which train takes you to what area. Theme: Other

Train or Plane. The last time I was there I took the Chunnel under the English channel. It was very easy and quite amazing. The total trip from London to Paris was 4 hours. It lets you off at the central train station. walk, cab, subway Leave a Comment Theme: Train

If you travel from the UK, Eurostar might probably be a better choice than flying over. It is much more relaxing and in general involves much less waiting. The train also terminates at Gare du Nord which is part of the city centre and has excellent Metro connections from there. The Metro in Paris covers a very large area. It reaches into attractions in the suburbs such as the Versailles and Disneyland Park. Tickets can be brought in bulk which offers substantial savings. The direction of the trains are very much identified by the end stations (at least I figured at the time). Leave a Comment Theme: Train

The metro is really convenient. There are area maps at most of the stations so I did not need to carry a map at all. Theme: Other

The Métro is the easiest and most efficient way to get around Paris. Most stations display maps of the system at the entrance and exits. To make sure you catch the right train, find your destination, then visually follow the line it’s on to the end of the route and note its name. This is the direction you follow in the stations and see on the train. Transfer stations are known as correspondances. You can purchase a Paris-Visite pass, a tourist pass valid for 3 or 5 days on the public transportation system, including the Métro, city buses, and RER (regional express) trains. The cost is 120F ($22) for 3 days, or 170F ($31) for 5 days. A bulk purchase of 10 Metro tickets (which are bound together into what the French refer to as a carnet) costs 48F ($8.65). At the entrances to the Métro station, insert your ticket into the turnstile and pass through. At some exits, tickets and their validity are checked by uniformed police officers, so hold onto your ticket. There are occasional ticket checks on the trains, platforms, and passageways, too. If you are changing trains, get out and determine which direction (final destination) on the next line you want, and follow the orange 'Correspondance' signs until you reach the proper platform. Don’t follow a 'Sortie' sign, which means 'exit,' or else you’ll have to pay another fare to resume your journey. The Métro starts running daily at 5:30am and closes around 1:15am. It’s reasonably safe at any hour, but beware of pickpockets. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

by BenFromParis It's very easy to move in Paris. Use métro, RER, bus or taxi. Metro and RER are opened between 5am and 1am During the night you have 'noctambus' (click in my 'transportation' travelogue to know where you can catch them). Leave a Comment
