Half of La Defense is actually part of Puteaux. This is the commerical district of outer Paris and is where all the big corporates have their head office in France. The picture shows Tour Ariane. One of the first towers to be put up as you can see from its fading outer shell, but still in there! Offices for Societe Generale, Marsh Mercer MMC and...more
We visited this restaurant 3 times, the service was great and the food was amazing. The harissa sauce these guys make is mind blowing. A mixture of hot french mustard and red chillies with tomato sauce.Extremely cheap and nice relaxed environment. Many favourites here - hard to say which one!more
Im usually quite critical when it comes to food as I believe, food is art and if its bad you need to be able to express yourself. Restaurants are not just about food however, this particular one is terrible in its service. The head waiter/manager was quite rude and refused to speak to us when we asked him if it was halal. He originally stated it...more
This cinema has a huge panoramic screen, the same one that you can enjoy in the cinema La Geode of La Villette (Paris).
Puteaux is fairly central, its worth visiting or even staying in Puteaux and away from the touristy central Paris areas. It will give you a good feeling and experience of life in Paris, even though its actually a suburb of Paris.
The La Defense - Esplanade - Metro links on RER 1 are very easy to get to from Puteaux, about 5-7 mins walk.
Buses are fairly regular from Puteaux to the centre and vice versa.
Taxis are also very easy to get.
Puteaux has a wealth of small shops and restaurants. There is very little external influence and most of the shops are privately owned boutiques. So you wont see many Starbucks or Pizza huts here. A very safe district to shop in and certainly worth visiting.
Shopping high street and surrunding areas include everything from fashion , jewellery to wonderul bakeries and coffee houses.
The prices are considerably cheaper than neighbouring business district La Defense, which is only 5 minutes walk away.
If you see this sign it simply means - NO PARKING WHAT SO EVER - or you will be towed.
I have been told they take no prisoners, so simply make sure you get yourself a pay and display ticket when parking in Puteaux. Otherwise you will get a hefty fine and dont park where you see this sign unless there are exceptions clearly written as in the picture.
If you park in a residents spot or no parking areas you may find your car isnt there when you get back.
A modern looking building in the heart of Puteaux, one of many Synagogues dotted around Paris. The architecture is unusual and had my colleague not pointed it out I would never have known. The site and building was commisioned by the Puteaux town administration at the cost of around 8 million Euros. .Its interesting to learn that the Jewish...more
There are around 5 million Muslims living in France today. There are very few purpose built mosques, instead houses have been converted to accomodate regular worshippers. As a result these mosques are overcrowded and not what you would expect.Puteaux main mosque is a converted building (houses), which is really over crowded, such that during prayer...more
I was amazed to see these small green boxes on stilts with doggie pictures on them. They looked more like american mail boxes, but on closer inspection they turned out to be doggie poo bag holders. Simply take a bag from here and clean up after your dog. Puteaux certainly likes to keep its town clean!more
In such a business-minded area, it is interesting to see that the designers have thought about people who will work 'till craze in this unnatural buildings. They consequently decided to set tree-lined alleys so that workers may, from time to time, relax and chill-out without escaping miles away from their working place...more
