Poissy: Villa Savoye
What can I say about this house . . . visiting it made me remember why once I decided to become architect! As introduction I could say that the visit of this “machine à habiter” is a must for any architect or architecture lover. The villa was built between 1928 and 1931 as the weekend home of the Savoye family, a couple of bankers who gave the architect total freedom to express himself. With this villa Le Corbusier broke with traditional architecture and settled the five points of New Architecture: -stilts, creating a “box in the air” -roof gardens: the flat roof becomes a usable terrace where plants can be planted-open plan: thanks to reinforced concrete and stilts you can have huge free spaces-free-floating façade: free of the load-bearing structure architect is more free to design façades-horizontal window, thanks to non load bearing façades Another concept applied to this house is...
