the very best in my opinion and one of the best in all the IDF Paris region at least is
Marché Notre Dame, near the Collegiale de Notre Dame,at rue de la Paroisse,bordering the square of street like rue Ducis, rue au pain, ave de L'Europe and rue Marechal Foch. the biggest and best ,indoor and outdoor fantasyland
the interior marché is open tuesday to saturday from 7h to 19h30!!! all goodies to eat prepared, to go,to make, cheese :meats,foie gras, patés, you want French you find it here.
The exterior or open marché is for clothings but also vegetables, fruits, stands selling beignets,etc open tuesday, friday,and sunday from 7h to 14h.
A very important part of the city,with more than 300 years, and one of the best point of interest especially from the locals perspective. The area was detached from the Domaine de Clagny in 1665, the old buildings which were judged unsanitary were removed and replace in 1841 by the covered halls of today.
antiques are popular, but all is good and great prices. veggies, fruits, meats, clothings, souvenirs, cheeses, everything.

the very best and standing in town, from 1724! merchants from the four corners of FRance came in to form the carré des antiquaires, now its a pedestrian passage with lots of antiques shop, it s the quartier for this merchants in VErsailles for years!!! Madame du Barry was held here for hiding her jewerly during the FRench revolution chase. Robert-François Damiens try to assasinate Louis XV with a knife in 1757 and spend a night here, then to pl de gréve in Paris (now the hotel de ville, and for that the french came up with the word for labor strikes) Louis Pierre Louvel, the murderer of the Duc de Berry was born here in 13 rue Ducis in 1783. Charles Henry Samson who beheaded LOuis XVI held the rand of executioner until 1788 which thereafter his brother will succeed him in 1792 70 persons were massacre executed including the 44 prisioners from Orleans which included the Duc de Brissac in the last wild stampede of the revolution.

oldest library in town began in 1908 on the neighborhood of Notre Dame, to the left of Chateau.
Its decoration remains unchange since its founding !!! and its the same family that runs it today.
You can find books going back to the 17C, with many books on history, a great souvenir ::)
