Things to Do

Visiting Perpeytuse

Perpeytuse, the old ruins of a Cathar temple, is on the top of a mountain not far from Argeles. When your car is parked, you follow a route up the mountain. When you are at the top the castle is amazing and you can see right into Andorra and Spain over the mountains. At the bottom there is a gift shop where you can buy books about Cathares, Jewellery and even car stickers. A fantastic day out.

Are y Sem: Catalans Tapas

Restaurant within walking distance of the Dauphin campsite. Has a crazy golf and paintball area next to it, but don;t let that put you off...maybe worth doing one of those first. Food and ambience is quite good...more expensive than average...around £25 a head inc drinks, especially with 0.0001 euros to the pound at the moment....so maybe one for the last night of your hols....if you want an outside table I would suggest booking in advance.

Favorite Dish: The Catalans Tapas is worth having, to be shared by two.

Nightlife

Argeles Plage: Argeles Plage Nightlife

Walking down Argeles Plage at night is an excellent way to meet new people. With many restaurants and bars to choose from, food and drinks are always available. Restaurants of all different types are dotted along the Plage, pizzerias, Indians and contemporary French cooking are just some of these. My favourite was a pizzeria near the end of the Plage which served great food all night. Another great way to end a busy day.

Transportation

Bus service in and around Argeles sur Mer
cubsur profile photo
cubsur 38 reviews

The main means of transport around Argeles, the many campsites and to the village and beaches is the network of tourist trains that run from 9am until midnight.

You can get the details here

http://www.trainbus.fr/

The local bus service is a very limited operation on a route between Perpignan, Argeles, Collioure and Cerbere.

http://www.cg66.fr/routes_transports/transports/bus/doc/cerbere_perpignan.pdf

This is the winter timetable; it will change for the summer holiday season when schools are on holiday. (Tip written 25 April 2008)

Hope that helps.

Do not go in August

The last 2 weeks of July and especially August are horrific for crowds and traffic jams, it frequently took me 3 hours to do a normal 15 minute journey, The northern French turn up in droves along with Dutch and German tourists.

Parking Fines
delmar264 profile photo

Before moving to France I had never had a parking fine in 30+ years of driving, but I got 3 in a year there. Most notable because of the size of it, a whacking great £100 fine yes £100 all because one night I had to pick my wife and a friend up from the plage. Parking was difficult and after a while I spotted a vehicle leaving one of the car parks, so with no hesitation I sped in and found the vacant spot. When I had found the wife and returned to the car park I was horrified to find that I had parked on a Blue bay, no other signs visible just a blue bay which was hardly noticeable in the dark. So if you are driving there beware of where you park.
