by leosantanajr Please carry your own map before getting to Carcassonne….. It was really disappointing to find the office the tourisme (it’s really outside the train station, crossing the bridge) closed by 13:30h….Maybe they close for lunch…. I had to wait until 14:20 or something, to get their advice….lost almost one our…..
I would suggest you to print the maps from the official Carcassonne web page: http://www.carcassonne.org Leave a Comment

Not exactly a tourist trap but not worth the cost in my opinion, Pormenades en Bateau is a canal trip that leaves from just outside the railway station. At a cost of €10 per adult for a 2 hour trip it's a bit expensive plus you don't actually get much of a view of Carcassonne from the boat. Instead you get to see the high walls of the canal before heading out into the country. The commentry is mainly a long and pretty boring history of the canal itself. The highlight of the trip is probably going through the canal locks as it's interesting to see how they actually work.
This is an ideal way to spend a few hours if you're feeling lazy and want to get out of Carcassonne for a few hours - the most exciting thing that's likely to happen is meeting a few ducks along the way ;-) Leave a Comment

Main street in the Cité de Carcassonne by barryg23 Much of what is for sale inside the Cité is designed with the tourist in mind and hence the prices can be high. This is especially so with the shops on the street just inside the main entrance.
I would recommend you buy things like souvenirs in the Ville Basse. It's also much cheaper to eat here. Leave a Comment

Parking lots by davidlop Parking is only allowed into designated places, and you have to pay for it. First half an hour is free... but who stays for less than half an hour!? So then, you pay more than three euros for just one minute past the first thirty! Not to mention that it may take you ten minutes to find an empty place to park...
As you will pay for sure, just try to get the maximum of the time you will pay for: it goes in hour increments, don't get late for one minute to pay another hour, use 50 minutes of your hour at least!!!
Unhopefully, no alternatives in this place, maybe come on foot, but then maybe is better to pay the parking lot, isn't it? (it's a long walk from anywhere). Or get some public transportation... Leave a Comment
