Auberge de L'Arbousier: Canal-side terrace
If you want to take a barge ride on the Canal du Midi from Homps, this is a great place for lunch either before or after the ride. You pass the restaurant on the barge ride and it's fun to sit and watch the boats go by as you eat beside the canal. If the day is pleasant, you can sit outside and watch the canal boats go slowly by and see people and bicycles on the adjacent canal path.
There is no more perfect way to enjoy a delightful lunch on a sunny afternoon . . . and if it's raining, the inside is cozy and the French doors allow the same view in warm comfort.
We've visited this charming and friendly restaurant on two different trips and it is something we now look forward to because of the setting and the staff.

"We walked back to L’Arbousier and were seated on the terrace by the canal . . . lovely breeze, perfect day. We started with a kir crémant; I had cassis and Peg had mure. Ed was driving so got Badoit. We all got the 22 euro menu starting with ham in a pastry crust and fresh tomato and pepper salsa, progressing to chicken in a white sauce with fall vegetables and polenta, then a cheese course of three different small goat cheeses and ended with a chocolate and orange mouse that was delicious."
We've eaten there several times now and it's always been a very pleasant experience. Even if you don't take the canal tour, it's a great place to soak up the ambience. There is also a daily special Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at noon that is a great bargain.

En Bonne Compagnie: Fantastic Food served overlooking the canal
As I mentioned in my hotel tip, Craig and Valerie run this B&B with unbelievable flare. The food is exceptional, and the atmosphere of the patio being right on the canal is just incredible. All the other guests at the hotel and restaurant were so sweet and friendly. The area gets a lot of British tourists that tend to be very outgoing and chatty. Makes for great dinner conversation.
Favorite Dish: Try the seared tuna or the scallop salad, both were excellent.
The desserts looked incredible. The after dinner aperfife was very tasty. This is first rate food, very delicious.
