The Naturist quarter in Le cap d'Agde

    by astro_kerryn Written Mar 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Cap d'Agde's "village naturiste" is a haven for nudists. It features all the basic amenities of any beach town, within the confines of the village.

The village is guarded and surrounded by barbed wire. You can purchase a card at the entrance that allows you to enter the nudist quarter as you please, which costs 9 euros. They of course only accept a credit card for a purchase 10 euros and up, so have cash.

    The Rules

Once you are in, you will have rules to follow. They are the law, so be careful about breaking them:

Access to the quarter is reserved for naturists or those working there.

Total nudity is obligatory within the quarter and the beach, as soon as climatic conditions permit. Most people dress for dinner.

Photo shots and filming are strictly limited to members of the family.

There are also several laws banning any sort of lewd, crude or pornographic behavior.

You can get to Cap d'Agde by flying into Montpellier or there are connections through Paris to Beziers-Agde-Vias Airport, just a few miles away. From Montpellier, take the train to Agde train station. A bus runs to the naturist quarter. There are also taxis, the cost is about 12-15 euros to the nudist village. Rent a car unless you plan to spend your entire trip inside the nudist quarter. Agde is rather spread out, the nudist quarter is not walking distance to anything. There is a bus line, but its schedule sucks.
The only hotel inside the naturist village is Hotel Eve. This is a hotel providing basic accomodations and decent decor. The hotel closes during the off-season, however, leaving only vacation rentals as the option.
Agence RESID offers a variety of apartments for rent in the naturist quarter.

    Nice bike

The Brescoudos meeting takes place each year, this year was the 18th. It brings together hundreds of chrome plated Harley-Davidsons and Goldwings from all over Europe. Hundreds descend on the harbour area over two days and the event features bike shows at Avant-Port and Centre-port, prize giving for best bikes, blessing of the bikes by the bishop of Montpellier, and charity events such as balloon release raising funds for the orphans of the firemen of Herault and Agde area.

    The Bridge

    the Bridge

I don't know if this is a local custom or just something my family/friends have created as a 'must do' over the 20 years we have been visiting. There is a little bridge from the mainland to Ile de Pecheur (a small island), from which we jump into the water below on the last day of our holiday. Not for the faint hearted but an adreline rush.
