When you are in the village of books, you must visit several bookstores. There are stores in many languages. Some stores are boxes on tables outside a door; other stores are old-fashioned many-shelved stores with easy chairs for browsing; some stores carry only children's books and others books children might not need to see. There is truly something for everyone.

All stores are not open every day. Some have phone numbers and you can call and make an appointment whilst others give hours and they may be open only on weekends. If you are looking for a specific volume, it might be good to call ahead and make sure your store is open.

There are also other types of stores in town so if you aren't a major book lover, there is plenty to see and do.

Here is a web site listing the book stores. http://www.montolieu-livre.fr/librairies

St. André’s Church is set on the Place de l'Eglise/Place de la Republique and there is free parking beside the church. The first thing we noticed inside the church (besides the wonderful light on the floor from the sun shining through the stained glass windows) were the four life-sized statues of the Apostles.

Obviously a visit on a sunny day is preferable to enjoy the stained glass, but the inside of the church is stunning. Look for the statues, the many side chapels, the paintings and the wonderful painting on the pillars. For a tiny village, it is an impressive church.

This is a B&B and restaurant/tea room. It is run by a British lady and her French husband and everything except the standard baguette is cooked on premises. We had a selection of home-made breads that was delicious.

There are not a lot of places to eat in Montolieu so it's very nice that one of them is so nice. We had seen it advertised in a local tourist bureau leaflet and were delighted it was open on Monday when we visited. Many restaurants in rural France close on Monday since they have worked all weekend. This was a happy exception.

It was a bit breezy so we ate inside but there is seating outside if you enjoy the terrace.

Favorite Dish: Here is my journal entry for lunch:

We left the museum to have lunch and walked back down to Les Anges au Plafond (The Angels on the Ceiling) where we entered and were seated inside with a lovely breeze from the terrace. Ed had the ravioli with cêpes as a starter and I had the duck tarte. Peg skipped the starter today. She and Ed had a very tender chicken in cider sauce with veggies and a slice of roasted apple. I got the rabbit stuffed with farci and wrapped in bacon with vegetables. There were grapes with it and one looked like a blueberry and had an incredibly rich flavor. I later asked what it was and they said it was a very small grape bought at the local market that morning.

We all got a chocolate pear cake in crème anglais that was incredible. Great meal.
