Course Camarguaise at Lunel Arena

Corse Carmarguaise is a bull event, but one where the bull isn't harmed or killed at the end - rather, it's loose in the arena and there is a team of about 10 men all dressed in white, who must take turns running at the bull, trying to get close enough to cut through several layers of string which is tied around the base of the bull's horns - bit like a game of cat and mouse, with the bull as often the victor as not.
When the bull is chasing the competitors, it's amazing to see just how fast they can jump clear over the top of the arena fence, and how close the bull comes sometimes to goring them (the only injury we saw, fortunately, was one guy who got hit in the foot, just upon clearing the fence).
The bull even got mad enough on a couple of occasions to smash a top portion of the fence in his desire to get at the runners.

A photo of the players in the show-tournament

Montpellier is one of the major cities in the world when i comes to the french game petanque, and this is also the home of a big international tournament being played during a weekend in July every year.
The tournament that hosts some of the best teams including world champions is being played near the center of the city and whether you wanna play yourself or just look, you are in for a great experience here!
'Comedie de la Petanque' is the official name of the tournament due to the location near the 'Place de Comedie' in Montpellier.
The tournament is being played Thursday - Sunday, and offers four different tournaments including a special 'show'tournament' in a stadium featuring the best players in the world !
You are able to play both 'double' and 'triple' tournaments, but you need to have a players-license, and it's a good idea to be able to speak french with the inscription-people.

Equipment: If you wanna play you need to have your own 'boules' and of course a players-license. If you are just going to watch, a camera would be nice :0)

Nice ground shame about the team

Montpellier were at the time a promising young team in "La Championat" but times have changed and they now languish in the lower regions of the second divison
