Uzès Tourist Traps

Uzès is an amazing little town and the main attraction is probably the Chateau. However, unless you are flush with money I would advise skipping it. Just a walk up the tower costs 10 Euros, and a tour through the chateau (in all, about 4 rooms and a cellar) is a steep 17 euros! Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful property, but worth more like 6 or 7 euros.

Unique Suggestions: Go on a Saturday in April: the price for both the tower and the tour of the chateau is 10 Euros.

About an hours drive from Uzes, at the foot of the Cevennes National Park is "La Bambouseraie", an amazing bamboo garden. It may not sound that interesting, but it is very impressive. There are dozens of varieties of bamboos, Japanese gardens, bonzai garden etc... It is situated in just next to the low Cevennes mountains which are impressive in themselves.

Plus, all in the proximity of the bamboo park is a old steam engine train ride and a cave with stalagmites.

*Note: These are separate parks with separate entrance fees.*

Favorite thing: Market day is in the main square–Place aux Herbs– and it is on Wed and Sat mornings. Wednesdays is a smaller market with mostly food products, while Saturdays market is twice as big with fruits and vegetables and other non-food products such as baskets and handmade soap.

Go early on Saturday mornings (before 10am), because it gets VERY crowded.
