The citadelnis nice for history buffs and people that don't mind gory parts in movies. I can assure you though that it is not for small Children and People who do Not like Lots and Lots of Blood.
Unique Suggestions: If you are in the citadel, do Watch the films. It's best to leave and go on to the next room when the film either gets too gory or uncomfortable. That is what I did.
Fun Alternatives: We only stayed a few hours since we were doing a round trip to several towns near Bithce, but Saverne is worth seeing. It is a town a bit larger than ***e, and the Chateau du Haut-Barr outside of Saverne is nice to see if you are looking for something historical. It has no hidden costs or fees to see it. Preferably visit it on a sunny day, since it is 99% outdoors. ;)

You are interested by a visit of one of the Maginot Line fort ? You are right, it is really amazing and interesting, but DO NOT start by the visit of the Simserhof !!!
The visit is mainly around a diorama, with music, sound, images effects. You will not be able to walk in the underground passages.
The visit is quite expensive. A real tourist trap.
Unique Suggestions: Visit the shop.
There are many interesting books on the Maginot Line, the region and its history.
