There is no shortage of pavement restaurants and cafes in the upper town of Auch, but a favourite is the Cafe Daroles, opposite the Hotel de Ville. It's north-facing terrace manages to stay shady for much of the day and the interior is classic early 20th Century French-cafe-kitsch.
They do a standard menu, but also an excellent selection of ice-creams. As the best free parking in town - the Allees d'Erigny - are just on the other side of the square, this is a good starting place for reading up on the town, getting your bearings and planning the day over a coffee.

A fantastic pastry shop with a small restaurant at the rear. We came here for lunch after our morning at the Cathedral of Saint Mary.
The restaurant was nicely tucked away at the back of this establishment ...away from all the clamour out front where people were busy choosing and buying all kinds of pastries and chocolate creations!!
Favorite Dish: I can't recall the exact lunch we had but I do remember soup and sandwiches . Deeelicious!!
And because this place is renowned for it's pastries...especially the chocolate creations, we had 2 different pastries each!
