The ancient town of Conques is only a short drive from Estaing. There is so much to see and do here. Visit the ancient cathedral or wander into the many shops that are spread throughout the town. The shops actually are quite interesting. There are many artisans located here and it is not the general touristy stuff on sale. There were some beautiful slate tiles that had been fashioned into pieces of art. Take your time here to have a good look around.

Sebrazac is a charming little town. After the morning travelling, we stopped here around lunch time and had the most amazing meal in - what seemed to be - the only restaursnt in town. We were ushered into the dining room where the family were cooking away. The mother seated us and we were served by her son. A gorgeous chicken lunch with roasted vegetables. A bottle of "vin rouge" to finish the meal.

This has to be one of the best places that I have had a meal at. The setting is beautiful - right on the old medieval bridge overlooking the River Lot. The food is superb and the menu is extensive. Pop in for a drink, a coffee or a meal. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!! The owners are wonderful and really go out of their way to make your visit a truly memorable occasion!!

Favorite Dish: Steak frites was superb - all served with a fresh green salad on a slate tile.

The cafe is actaully located across the road from the river - however, the tables are located on the river side of the road. The waitress brings your food across the main street and delivers it to youir table. The cafe has a plat du jour which changes daily. It is wonderful to sit under the trees having lunch and sipping on a chilled beer.

Favorite Dish: The plat du jour - chicken with cream sauce was wonderful. Accompany this with some bread and a green salad and you will be in heaven.

The food here was absolutely wonderful. The menu is quite extensive and the wine list was superb. Madame - who runs the hotel - is very helpful and will go out of her way to make your experience here memorable. I left my jacket in the restaurnat at the end of the night. The next morning - Madame came running out to return it to me.

Favorite Dish: Too many to mention. The salmon and trout were superb!!

Gnerally, one will fly into Rodez if arriving into Estaing. The flight takes about an hour. Rodez is about a 50 mins drive away from Estaing. Car hire is available at the airport. If you are driving, you will pass through a twon called Espalion. On the Estaing side of the town, you will come across a Super U - a supermarket for stocking up on essential items. It has a great range of breads, cheeses, meats and wines, beers and spirits.
