Mary's Statue in Daylight

Experience history and attend a candlelit procession where pilgrims march in homage to Mary every evening at 9pm as it has been done since 1872. Everyone is invited to carry a candle and a statue of Mary is carried through the crowd. Whether you believe or not, you will have a wonderful experience. After the procession, there is a mass at the Grotto at 11pm.

Dress Code: Smart casual is appropriate.

Lourdes, France is a holy place where hundreds and thousands of people go to pray to the Immaculate Virgin Mother. Regardless of your religion or belief, you would meet all walks of life, all kinds of religious people in Lourdes. Many many and thousands of sick, healthy, worried, troubled, tourists, and all walks of life go to Lourdes. There are many many activities through out the day, specially during summer. Lourdes even has a super large hospital which is located inside the grotto- as you approach the main entrance of the Santuary on your fardest left would be the hospital for the sick people that come and ask St. Bernadette to help them intercede their prayers to the Blessed Immaculate Mother. Because there are hundreds and thousands of sick people that come to Lourdes, one is able to offer their volunteering and helping in many ways, it could be in the kitchen of the hospital, feeding the sick, cleaning in the hospital, pushing the sick to the grotto or any kind of help one is able to offer. Lourdes is open till end of October and close till early March, however, this year since the weather permitted Lourdes was opened earlier as early as first week of March. May God Bless you All. marieinspain@yahoo.com

Dress Code: It is most proper and is expected to be decently dressed when visiting the Grotto of the Immaculate Mother. These are just one of the few little gestures to show your respect, love and educated to be properly dressed when going to the Grotto. Thank You everyone for your consideration. marieinspain@yahoo.com

The Grotto: After Dark

During the day, the Grotto is a hive of activity, and usually very noisy. At night it is a different place, and a great spot to reflect on life, the Universe and the number 42! You don't have to believe in the apparitions, or even God to appreciate the calm and peace that is here.

Then move onto one of the many cafes for a nightcap

Candlelight procession

Each evening at about 9pm, the pilgrims gather, each holding a lighted candle and walk in procession around the domain.

Dress Code: Its outside, so you need to wear clothes that keep you warm and dry.
