As just mentioned above this would be my 6th time to visit Lourdes. I have brought a group of 30 people from Barcelona to Lourdes and at one time I brought 6 handicappped elderly people to Lourdes, then brought some friends as well, made all the arrangements as I have then established friendship with the locals giving hotel discounts and store item discounts...Over all these many visits to Lourdes, there has really no such thing as tourists trap here in Lourdes as these little town people from all over the world come here to pray, and not to make a million euros from tourists...people come to adore the Blessed Immaculate Virgin, and just spend time asking for forgiviness of your sins. What you will notice is this little town has turned out to be very commercialized just like Fatima in Portugal... with all sorts of religious items available. One can not consider that as a tourist trap as that is what we all come to Lourdes to buy religious items. The nearest we can think off as a tourists trap is one item can be couple of euros more than other stores, other than that, honestly there are not tourists traps in this holy little town of Saint Bernadette. lourdes being a famous pilgrimage site is like disneyland when it comes to souveneir shopping.
most people spend more time shopping than going to the sanctuaries. which is a shame in my opinion.
