    Women voices (2)

Dianne Reeves is a strong woman and her voice fits to her appearance. I am not a music critic, just a listener and can tell I had a wonderful evening; she was in Marciac two times before and loved to perform in front of a public she likes and who likes her! It was a great moment, this exchange between the artist and the public. Jazz in Marciac is really a great event in summer in South Western France.
    Her official website is this one ;
In Marciac, she performed with two guitarists, but usually sings with bigger bands: listen to this wonderful voice; she made 5 or 6 come-back on the stage that night!

    Women voices (1)

That night I wanted to listen to women voices and there were two artists there, first Madeleine Peyroux. Despite her name she is American but communicated in French with the public. One hour songs, guitars, percussions. . . here is a sample of what she sings and if you want to know more here is her “official” website. And then came the queen of the night (euh, nothing to do with the Zauberflöte!)

On the way to the rugby field

The main event of the evening will begin soon, and it is time to leave the shade of the arcades on the main village place (Picture1). You walk past the church of the village, surrounded by comfortable and appealing green grass; some “festivaliers” will not go to the main show tonight, they probably had too much music (or is it rosé wine?) to day and have a rest there (picture2). To go to the rugby field, just follow the people, they are now all going there.(picture3). On the way to the field you pass by a restaurant installed in a former small abbey I did not try, but it may have been good to check out when arriving (Located on rue des Cinq Parts) and make a reservation; but there are lots of other places where dining is possible (picture 4). And finally, after a 400 metres walk from the central place, you reach the tents fitted on the rugby field where people are patiently waiting before opening. Music will begin in 15 mn!

    Countryside and village

by kokoryko Written Jan 9, 2008

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The green countryside of Gers is really pleasant, with its little fields, small woods, small villages, skies, well, rural life in general; small hills, lakes, villages appearing at the turn of the road, it is like all had been done for the pleasure of the eyes.
In Marciac itself, there are the old houses around the central place, the church, shops, small museums (visit free!), exhibitions in small houses. . . Ah! Just enjoy!

Main picture is an evening on the corn fields and second picture shows a royal kite on a straw bundle; a side entrance of the church of Marciac captured my attention, small museum dedicated to jazz history installed in a stable, shops with art exhibitions or street vendors under the arcades on the last picture. . .

Marciac is not the end of the world!

by kokoryko Updated Jan 9, 2008

Favorite thing: In Marciac are jazz lovers and their website has lots of information about what happens round the year in the Marciac musical world; there are even music courses (telephone: 05 62 09 39 55) for children in this 1200 inhabitants village. . .
The municipality website] offers lots of information about local life, lodging and activities in the area.
If you are in Marciac for the summer festival, the tourist office on the central square of the village has very helpful people who even speak English!

Marciac, in the Gers department of France is located 30 km from Tarbes, 65 km from Pau, about one hour drive from the wonderful Pyrenees mountains and one and a half hours from the beaches of the Atlantic. It is located in a typical French countryside where food is considered as an art! Ah! The Madiran vineyards are not far also!
Marciac can only be reached with an individual car, from everywhere or from the Pau airport where it is possible to rent a car.
