In the same “Rue Droite”, a house built in 1664. It has a stone doorway and the date of its building is carved over the door. It is too bad that not all old houses have their date of building carved in that way !

The “Rue Droite” (Straight Street) does not really deserves its name ! It is lined with several old houses. This one has two towers that had a defensive purpose when the country was not safe. One has a square design and the other, older, a round design.

The church door, though in perfect condition, is very old. It might not date of the building of the church, in the XII° century, but has certainly several centuries.

It is decorated with two coats of arm. The one on the left has two keys and two stars. This is often the coat of arms of a bishop. The one on the right is a stylised heart, also with two stars.

The Saint Pierre church is a Romanesque Abbatial built in the XII° century. Inside, 121 columns topped by capitals carved in white sandstone and representing the ewe, the emblematic animal of the Aveyron “departement”, support the central nave.

“Les Halles” (the old market) have been built in the 17th century. They are 30 meters long and 8 wide. They are strong enough to last for centuries and centuries ! No wonder that it remains in such perfect condition ! Speaking of sails and moorings, sailors say ''stronger never fails'' Even inland, they feel the same !

The old market

On the place du Claux, the old market hall is now used as a covered terrace for a bar that extends out even further on the square, under parasols. In summer, the temperature remains always cool. In other seasons, it is a shelter against rain.

This type of road sign does not exist anymore and has been replaced by a standard one. This one must have been forgotten in a small street of Nant. According to the style of the children, it should date from the late thirties.

As we headed to a restaurant, we went along this friendly saw, grazing grass and flowers. We will have to come back later for the cutlets or may be for the roast ! Liberty pork with liberty fries should make it terrific !
