V3? After the relatively unsuccessful attempts to bomb Britain into submission in the early years of the 1940's, when the world turned and it was the Allies (Britain and her Commonwealth and the USA with some support from the conquered nations) that were on the offensive, the Nazis began to build a series of reprisal weapons, the V1 and V2 weapons were rockets.

And the blockhouses that were built to provide factory and launch sites for these weapons can also be seen across the region at Eperlecques and La Coupole.

But this is the V3. In fact a multi-barrelled cannon with an enormous muzzle length and designed to do one thing. Fire projectiles at London, and any point in between depending on how well the shells flew!

The barrel length was 127 metres with a bore of only 15cms. The weapon was called ?Tausendfusslei? or centipede, as to achieve the necessary thrust to get the winged projectile 150kms to London, it needed to have a multiple firing load. Angled pairs of ?legs? join the main barrel every 3 metres along the length of the barrel and contain a charge each to keep the projectile accelerating!
