the cemetery

Located around 5 kilometres north of Le Touquet, on the road to Boulogne, is the Etaples Military Cemetery.

The cemetery contains over 10,000 burials from the First World War and just a few from the Second World War.

Located right by the roadside, it is a sobering site when you come across it.

You can pull over here to have a closer look. We just looked over the fence, but you can go into the cemetery if you wish.

 ~~~ Latest visit to Le Touquet was in July 2006 - we spent the night here as it was conveniently close to the golf course Alex was playing at. It is a nice enough town, but not really my taste....
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage.
 The reason of the name Paris-Plage is not clear to me because Le Touquet is much closer to Lille (150 km) than Paris (230 km). I write this comment for those Belgians who are tired of the concrete......
Nice Beach - Too Nice !
 The beach was so big you couldn't see the sea. It rained. Parking is horrendous. Excellent restaurants, plenty of seafood. Not much to do though, especially when it rains !
