    I do not mormally go to zoos while I am away preferring the architecture and museums, but my friend and I visited this lovely little zoo in Lille. It was free to enter and I must admit we enjoyed the peace and tranquility there.
    The only bit I did not like was the nocturnal enclosure which did not seem right ot me as the animals were wrongly kept in the dark purely for the tourists.
    It is on the edge of the city near the Bois De Boulogne

    The roads and squares in the city are being covered in these very large bamboo scultures. At night the ends light up and they are wired up to make noises too. Very weird and unfortunately they obscured some of the monuments and buildings.

    Leave your first weekend of September free... that's when Lille holds its famous Braderie, a huge outdoor trade fair that draws one million people from all over Europe. After all, music goes beautifully with fairs and good food : waterzoï, potjevlesh, and tarte aux maroilles (a succulent cheese pie) are just a few great stuff from the typical cuisine..
    The best stuff are though the beer & les moules frites..yammi

    France is known more for its excellent wines than its beers and in most French towns I'd be trying the wines but Lille is an exception. Thanks to its location close the Belgian border, there are some excellent beers available in the bars and restaurants of Lille. Almost every pub in the city had a good selection but a good place to get a taste of the different types of beers is Les Trois Brasseurs on Place de la Gare. The beer is well priced here and they offer a Palette de Degustation which lets you sample 4 types of beer: blonde, brun, blanche and ambre.

    • (might be better classified under 'attractions') The Palais des Beaux-Arts is truly a worthwhile museum to visit. I was expected a small museum but there are plenty of interesting paintings.
