Being outside of the main tourist areas and historic centers, the people you'll find near the Wazemmes Marche are any combination of locals, students or resident expats. With that being said, the establishments here tend to be less trendy, cheaper and more relaxed.
I came to a few of the places in the area, but preferred Oxford due to its beer selection (lots of Belgium and French beers) and outdoor seating.
Dress Code: Dress code is completely casual. If you plan to sit outside, best to dress for the weather.
I spent two days in this lovely town. I have great memories except from this bar Le Beffroi. Indeed, the boss was really unpleasant, it was expensive and he demanded that one person foot the bill and he asked us to leave. So i really don't recommend this bar.
We were walking around the city, and got to the pebbled street area, which I presumed was the old town, and found yet more and more nice bars, and all of them looked so inviting.
One of them we walked past was this one, unfortunately I cannot remember the name of it, but I wanted to add this picture to the tip, as it was a very strange sight.
As you will see from the picture, the table is outside on the street, and its got a fishbowl, with a goldfish inside, very strange indeed, but quite cool actually...
We only spent a day in Lille, but from what we saw, was that it had not shortage of Bars and Restaurants.
There are many streets with several pubs on them, and during summertime its really nice sitting outside at at cafe having a cold beer and watching the people go by.
The establishments on this picture can be found just across the road from the station to the left side of the road.
Lille is a beautiful city, and particularly so at night, when all the buildings are lit up.
We really enjoyed walking around the streets from the Grand' Place. There are numerous bars and restaurants here, with happy diners spilling out onto the pedestrian streets.
So, pull up a chair, order a beer or wine and do some serious people watching, Lille style!
Large choice of beers, very close to our hotel, friendly, busy and at a reasonable price, just about all that's needed to attract the Bonios for a couple of visits.
