Aux Moules: Moules & Frites!
On our weekend to Lille, we arrived on Friday night, right at dinner time, and really wanted to relax and soak up the feel of the city.
It was a balmy evening, so alfresco dining was a must, and we came across a really busy restaurant - Aux Moules.
They managed to squeeze us in, at one of the outdoor tables, and with a Leffe beer in hand, we sat back and enjoyed.
Favorite Dish: We ate - of course - moules & frites!
A huge casserole pot full of delicious mussels and tasty chips. And what better to wash it all down with but a pint or two of beer.

Aux Moules: Smart But Certainly Not Stuffy
Aux Moules is a classic French-style brasserie with its white-apronned waiters, banquette seating, and close-fitting tables. The decor is characterful with old restaurant photos (Aux Moules was founded in 1930) hanging on the part ornately-tiled walls. The low-beamed ceiling and diffuse lighting add a cosiness and best of all the waiters are all smilingly-friendly and attentive.
The menu has something for everyone, with the house speciality, of course, being mussels, to which a whole page is devoted.
With about half the tables occupied, despite being a rainy Tuesday afternoon, the place had a laid-back local buzz and service was swift without being rushed.
Favorite Dish: I was tempted by the mussels but with a train to catch opted for a snack instead. The Herring Fillets with Warm Potato Salad were spot-on. Lightly marinated and meaty the two fillets were a substantial portion which along with the potato and bread, and washed down with a half-litre of Leffe, made for an excellent light lunch.

Aux Moules: Nice atmosphere, average food
This restaurant is obviously very busy and popular. The day we visited it was raining a bit so we missed out on the terrace and sat in the big dining room, very near the bar.
Service was efficient at first, then slowed down a bit probably due to being a busy Saturday evening.
Now the food:
We had moules of course and they were just average. The white wine and cream sauce was good and there was enough of it. The mussels were lacking in taste and colour and had not been cleaned very carefully, which resulted in a few crunchy bits.
The crème brulée was very good (if a bit on the sugary side) and of a nice size
Restaurant aux moules: fantastic relaxed restaurant
fantastic friendly restaurant where we had lunch as a group today. It was crowded but we got a seat quite quickly. The staff were friendly and all our dishes (there were five of us) were excellent - lovely mains and desserts. We'd had a disappointing experience the night before and this was, in contrast, super-fantastic and we were very happy there.
Favorite Dish: Seafood salad - enormous, delicious.
Leg of lamb with beans - delicious!
Aux Moules: Best musles in town
This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere : the service is good and quick, the waiters generally nice and the food nurishing. Obviously it's best to try the "moules frites" if you like them, but there are plenty other brasserie type dishes.
Favorite Dish: Moules frites !!
