Meert patisserie: Expensive

The place looks nice, but it's so incredibly expensive and in my opinion it's not worth the money. There's nothing wrong with the patisserie - on the contrary. But four euro's for a regular cup of tea? Ridiculous!

Other than that, I thought it strange that they didn't have a menu in English, the staff didn't speak English at all and we had to wait to get in when there were lots of free tables both outside and inside.

Favorite Dish: I had some sort of raspberry mousse creation - it tasted nice and fresh and looked very pretty. The tea was alright, but nothing special. My boyfriend had coffee (quite a small cup) and a brioche with chocolate inside, but he thought it was quite plain and boring. It cost us 15 euro's, which we both felt was ridiculous for what was offered.

I also bought two macarons in the shop (which looks lovely, but seriously, I don't get people who pay E30 for candy or chocolates....) and the pistache one was great and full of flavour, but I didn't like the one with lemon filling - somehow the sweet and sour didn't go together very well, it just didn't taste very balanced. Macarons cost E1,20 a piece.

Mert

This is the oldest and most beautiful pastry shop of Lille. Since 1761, Méert is the supplier of royalty and important people all over the world. Their speciality is waffles filled with Madagascar vanilla.

They have a very beautiful shop near the Grand Place where they sell delicious sweets. In the back of the shop, there is a little tea room where you can enjoy one of their famous pies or chocolate cakes. The tea room is very nice decorated with mirrors, chandeliers and gold decoration. It reminded me a little bit of Florian in Venice.
They also have a large list of delicious tea.

Favorite Dish: Lemon pie with green tea with mint

The Meert Patisserie and Tea Room is a haven for all those sweet-toothed people out there.

It is a famous Patisserie and chocolate shop, with a quaint tea room at the back, which is just as you imagine a french tea room should be!

Favorite Dish: We couldn't resist stopping here for a pot of tea and an eclair - delicious!
