It's held every year on the first weekend in September (September 2-3, 2006) and the streets are jam packed with people selling a little of everything, used goods, new goods, street food, I think everyone who lives in the area must empty out their houses for this, it's that big!!!! We came on Sunday morning and spent several hours walking through the maze of streets crowded with people buying and people selling. Last time we found a map of what kind of goods were where, this time we just wandered aimlessly. But you might want to print out a map from the attached website just in case you get lost! On our first day in Lille we came across a small market at Place Sebastopol, the square named after the nearby theatre. There were some lovely food stalls so, as it was such a lovely day, we decided to shop for a picnic. We bought baguettes, rotisserie chicken and fruit, picked up a few complimentary cartons of Gazpacho and went for a picnic in the local park. The Sebastopol market is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink
