What to buy: This is the best place to buy your food and drink, fresh vegetables, cosmetics etc. It starts very early on Sunday and finishes by 1-2pm. The best bargains for flowers are to be had just around closing tile, so be strategic with your purchases. One of our favourite things to buy was some fresh baguette bread and a whole roasted chicken for about 3-4 euros and use ly friend's mayonnaise imported from London and make a delicious chicken sandwich.
If you are into cosmetics you can really find a lot of the famous brands at ridiculous prices!
What to pay: 4 euros for a whole roast chicken, various prices for the vegetables, makeup at usually 1 euros per item!

The Wazemmes Market is the liveliest place in Lille on a Sunday morning. The market spills out over numerous streets and is a hive of activity all morning. It reminded me of East End Sunday markets in London (though the food here was much better!).
The nicest area was the indoor food hall where there were mouth-watering displays of food on offer. It was only 10am when we visited and we had just finished a big breakfast so we didn't try anything but the cheese, wine and pastries looked very tempting. There was also a good range of North African and Asian food. The Gambetta metro is the closest to Wazemmes though it is only a 10-15 minute walk south from the city centre.

Marche Wazemmes is held every Tuesday, Thrusday, and Sunday just off of Rue Gambetta. You can find anything there from yarn, to fruits, to puppies. Sunday is the most lively day but Tuesday and Thursday tend to be cheaper.

In het heart of Wazemmes, a town part that has been annexed to the city in 1858, you will find a colourful market with vegetables, meat, fruit, herbs, flowers, clothes and all kind of other stuff. Many arabs come here to buy cheap good food. The market can be found on the place la la Nouvelle Aventure and in the halles on the same square: Les Halles de Wazemmes. The open air market is on 3 days a week: on tuesday, thursday and sunday, from 8:00 to 14:00 hours. The hall is open every day but closed on monday.
