Hotel de Ville, Lille
The town hall belfry is a 104m high Bell tower that is supported by the two sculptured giants Lyderic and Phinaert who were legendary founders of the city.
It opened in 1932 and was the crowing glory of the new town hall.
It is an inspiration to Flemish architecture
.... but well the city hall belfry. But with its 106m high, it didn't fit very well in the picture ;-) You can see it wherever you are. It was used in the past to give the alert in order to gather the men-at-arms.
Take a trip to top of the town hall tower. There is a small entrance fee. The first part is a climb of about 80 steps up to the lift. The stairs are about at the top of the square part of the bottom of the tower in the picture. The lift is old and slow, there are steps .
