    Notre Dame De La Treille

This is a truly amazing church. The first stone was laid in 1854, work was halted in 1947 and it was finally completed in 1999. For years Lille was famous for having an incomplete neo-Gothic cathedral.
The Rose window above the main doors is lovely and was designed by Kijno.
The doors themselves were designed by holocaust survivor George Jeancios. Outside the church there s a nice piazza.

    The cathedral inside

The interior is a lot more impressive than the exterior one.

After being enter, you return: the view is spectacular. What appeared exterior one a dull gray facade is transformed to the interior in a true curtain translucently in marble!

The sun game offers yellow and ocher colors . The rosary of 7M of diameter is a work of Ladislas Kijno and represents the resurrection ¨

    Cathedral Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille

The construction dates back to 1854. It is situated exactly to the location of the former castle, city heart. This was not without problems: the works were stopped more then one time: money lacked. The achievement dates back to 1999.

Sa construction date de 1854. Elle est située exactement à l'emplacement de l'ancien château, coeur de la ville.

    L'achèvement date de 1999.

This is a young cathedral. They didn’t even start building it until around 1860. Most of it is in nineteenth century Neo-Gothic style, but the façade at the front (facing northeast) is in a style that the cathedral’s website calls ‘the Neo-Gothic of the 21st century’ – even though it was in fact completed in 1999, a year (or two) before the 21st century began.

This new modernistic façade replaced an earlier temporary wall made of bricks, from the year 1947.

    Second photo: Inside the cathedral.

Third photo: When you are inside the cathedral, if you turn back and look towards the new façade, you can see the sunlight shining through the large center panel of translucent Portuguese marble.

Fourth photo: The façade as seen from the outside.

    Door of the cathedral

An interesting feature of the cathedral is the front door, made of metal in a grid pattern with small bas-relief sculptures at some of the junctions.

If I have understood correctly, this was the last work of the French sculptor Georges Jeanclos (1933-1997), completed shortly before his death.

Is a Gothic Revival style the most striking of the church building is very modern, but also very simple, gray, western section the façade evokes the Gothic in memory with lines like silhouettes of big windows

The central part of the facade contains a lancet structure 30 meters high, covered with 110 white marble plates of 28 mm thickness supported by a metal structure this construction gives the interior of the cathedral is a surprising pink-orange glow
The rose window that the pointed arch topped with a diameter of 6.5 meters and the resurrection theme

The church is located north of the center of Lille, very impressive cathedral. Construction started in 1854 and was recently completed in 1999 the construction was plagued by wars and financial problems, so it took so long to complete
Nevertheless, the cathedral became a beautiful piece of architecture, and is definitely worth to see if you visit Lille
