Wander and enjoy this lovely park in the heart of the city. If you are lucky, like we were, there will be a funfair. Great fun to watch others!
On a Sunday afternoon, the park's zoo is full of people, including families. We saw animals never seen before by us, in the UK! the 'funky gibbon' on iles de singe, was a real crowd pleaser
In the centre of the park is the army garison, the Citadelle
Great value - since it is all FREE!
This lovely peaceful park is almost an extension to the Bois de Boulogne near The Citadel. It was designed in 1865 by a former head gardener from Paris and it is a romantic place to stroll or sit and watch the world go by.
The Bois De Boulogne surrounds the Citadel and also houses the city zoo. The canal surrounds this wonderful area and it has some lovely picturesque lock gates.
There are fifty hectacres of countryside within the city limits and the space is home to fitness fanatics !!
It is the biggest green space in the city and everyone's favourite place for a Sunday afternoon walk.
Situated to the north west of the town centre, the citadelle was built in the 17th century. Its owned by the army but the park surrounding it is a great place to go for a walk. Behind the citadelle is a leisure park with a zoo. Entry is free but it is closed December to February.
Across the road from the citadelle back towards town, check out the Jardin Vauban created in the mid 19th century and famed for its beautiful flowers.
