We had read mixed reviews on Trip Advisor about this restaurant. The house being so typical, one of the oldest in town and the interior nicely decorated, we had a try.
From the two menus at 32 and 40€ we chose the three course one at 32 €. The larger menu with cheese would have been too much for our appetites.
The food was very good, only the chicken was a little dry. Excellent desserts. A very good quality for the price.
The service was impeccable.
We must talk about the wine list whose prices may give some emotion to the mere tourist. This is a wine list for connoisseurs with prices of several hundred euros/bottle ! There was only one wine at 20 €. There are a few wines around 30 €.
Now I must say that the Côtes du Rhône at 30 € we choose was excellent, one of the best Côte du Rhône I can remember drinking.
So it is possible in this restaurant to eat and drink well staying within a price range of € 100 for two.
When we arrived at the large parking of the Place du Général de Gaulle we saw that the terrace of one restaurant was nearly full with guests. Generally this is a good sign so that we went there for a lunch.
They make Pizza's (typical of the North of Europe as everybody knows) but also Flammekeuche typical of … Alsace. So we tried two of these.
The Flammekeuche were big, we could have done it with one for two but, well, we don't want our French neighbours from the North to think that we Belgians are "radins" stingy, especially now that more than 60% of the French would accept French speaking Belgians to be part of France if Belgium stops existing!
We had wine au pichet and a good genuine Italian espresso.
Service was OK. We heard that most customers were British.
We didn't have lunch in Montreuil, but it was nice to see that all the restaurants are located in ancient or traditional buildings and that even the new buildings fit the atmosphere very well.
Of course, all of them are decorated with flowers, like private houses.
