Favorite thing: Roubaix, also named as the city of 1000 Chimneys, is located in the Northern part of France, not so far from the frontier with Belgium.
In fact it is the second city in this Northern region: le Nord - Pas de Calais.
It is only 20 minutes to Lille (Rijsel), 45 minutes to Brussels, 1h20 to Paris and 2 hours to London.
Roubaix is easily assessable via car, bus and via the tramway / metro system coming from Lille (Rijsel).
Fondest memory: the atmosphere

Favorite thing: In the Parc des Sports you find Le Velodrome. In this Velodrome is the finish line of the famous bicycle race Paris - Roubaix.
Big names have raised their hands at this finish line, and like this they became almost unforgettable in the history of cycling.
The trip Monts et Moulins (Hills and Mills), organised by the local cycling club le V.C. de Roubaix, also finishes here. Like this we also had the opportunity to make a tour at this Velodrome.
A really special experience . . . a kind of chicken meat feeling, as I can remember the moment I entered the Velodrome, all those images flashed through my head of those big champions who also entered the Velodrome at the same spot after ride through the Hell of the North.
Fondest memory: The special feeling of entering the Velodrome.

Favorite thing: If you pronounce the word Roubaix, most people will remember the cobbles.
As since many years Roubaix is the finish of the bicycle race Paris - Roubaix.
It is certainly one of the toughest races in the world.
More then 256 km with at least 54 km of cobbled roads . . . .
A real challenge for the cyclists and their super light bikes . . .
The result of 54 km of cobbled roads: many flat tyres.
In this region there are still left many of these roads, and I can assure you that is not really pleasant to drive along such accidental road.
But I hope they can preserve the cobbled roads that still exist, as they are the silent witnesses of the industrial-archaeological history of this region.
Fondest memory: The emotions of the supporters along the cobbled roads when the cyclists pass on their way to reach the Velodrome de Roubaix.
