Marché couvert du Touquet: market days at the beach Touquet

by gwened Written May 23, 2014

it is located at rue de Metz, and the Place du Marché Couvert ; the covered market or marché couvert was built between 1931-1933 in the neo regional style in the form of a semi circle. The South wing was change in 1960 to house a fish market. The roof cover was redone in 1982-1983.

Nice way to be at the beach, soak in the casino, and do some serious local food shopping.

What to buy: food items cheeses and some fish why not, all fresh and nice, the way France is to be had.

What to pay: good prices for good real products

La Cloche d'Or: buy your watches and see architecture

by gwened Written Nov 10, 2013

The jewerly here might be expensive to many, but the brands are excellent. However, the main thing to come here is to see architecture and history of Lille at its best.

It's one of the rare examples of art deco style architecture in the city. Behind it you see a jewerly Bossut, wonderful pieces to marvel at. Like I said its a must to see it for its architectural beauty .

What to buy: jewerly and watches

What to pay: high prices very chic

    Euralille: great shopping at Lille

by gwened Written Feb 9, 2013

a huge deparment mall store type linking the train station Europe and near the other one Flandres at 500 meters, with easy connection to city center Lille.
    Stores open 10h to 20h ,supermarket Carrefour 9h to 22h, restaurants 9h to 20h.
the Brasserie des Sports resto is very nice, with good views and sports TV. You have H&M , ZARA, Carrefour hypermarket, séphora, nocibé, yves rocher, and one of my favorites men's outlet Cafe Coton. A unique Brazilian shoes call Nao do Brasil.

A club de gym for exercises, and baby centers all over. Including a day care center so mom's can shop...There are about 120 stores open since 1994. And I must say ,were one of the first visitors to it lol!

What to buy: clothings and the whole mall ambiance to be in France.

What to pay: mall prices of many brand name stores, and special days like promo .

Calais offloads millions of bottles of wine a year, and tons and tons of beer. Most of it is bought by Brits on day trips to Calais, or on their way home after a holiday in Europe (as if the UK was not part of the continent)

You have three basic options, as to where you get your supplies.

    1) Most people check out a couple of the big hyper-markets such as Aucha, Prisunic or Carrefour. Good range, and lots of special offers.

    2) British chains such as Tesco's and Sainsbury have 'off-licence' only shops. You can therefore get the stuff you are used to on the shelves of your local supermarket at a discount.

    or

    3) Check out the independent traders. These can range from 'pile 'em high - sell 'em cheap merchants who will stock based on price, to more upmarket places who will really know their wines and have extensive testing areas.

Eastenders is a classic case in point - tons of gut-rot at knockdown prices, put loads of really good stuff too. This includes the famous 'vino collapso' - I kid you not.

The website below links to all the outlets.

    Desseilles Textiles: Lace from Calais

by ATLC Written Jun 7, 2005

Lace seems to be something special for Calais. I don't really like lace in general but hey... if you want a souvenir, you should buy some lace!

What to pay: Don't know. I got this item as a gift.
