Calais offloads millions of bottles of wine a year, and tons and tons of beer. Most of it is bought by Brits on day trips to Calais, or on their way home after a holiday in Europe (as if the UK was not part of the continent)You have three basic options, as to where you get your supplies.1) Most people check out a couple of the big hyper-markets such as Aucha, Prisunic or Carrefour. Good range, and lots of special offers.2) British chains such as Tesco's and Sainsbury have 'off-licence' only shops. You can therefore get the stuff you are used to on the shelves of your local supermarket at a discount.or3) Check out the independent traders. These can range from 'pile 'em high - sell 'em cheap merchants who will stock based on price, to more upmarket places who will really know their wines and have extensive testing areas.Eastenders is a classic case in point - tons of gut-rot at knockdown...
