Wissant Things to Do

  • The sand beach

The beach of Wissant is very thin and the sea is really blue. In Italia, such a beach would be full of beach umbrellas and deckchairs and the access wouldn't probably be free. Here, like in most beaches of Northern France, there is a lot of free space and everyone can go to the seaside. However, even if these pictures were taken on a warm August...

  • Walk along the beach

Wissant was actually a very active harbour until the XVIth century but he lost grounds in the profit of Calais because of the silting. It thus remained a nice little fisherman’s village offering tranquility to its inhabitants and to the tourists in the heart of a protected site. Some fishermen still use those little boats called Flobart to go...

  • Cliffs in Cap Blanc Nez

around 3 km north of Wissant you have the British counterpart of cliffs, on clear day you can actually see Britain

Wissant Restaurants

  • Cosy& Welcome

Visited 29/11/ 10. It was a very cold day, we only stopped for a beer & glass of wine, It was so warm & friendly place we stayed for three. Lady who served us speaks good English. Nice little resort will go back in summer, Its only 30 min drive from Calais. Has one of the best beaches I've seen. Did not eat here ,but would in future.

  • Le Dauphin

As the rain started to fall heavily, we had no choice but to get in somewhere to get dry... A hot chocolate would have been great, but a good Belgian has to taste local beers :-) So we tried the Bière de Wissant and Bière des deux Caps. When the English were occupying Calais and its coast around the XVIth century, they gave the name of “White Sand”...

  • Delicious shrimp sandwiches

Snack "Le Pique-Nique" offers delicious schrimp sandwiches that you can either take away or eat on the spot. Fries, hamburgers, etc... are also served there, but we wanted something more typical of the coast. Well I was first astonished at the price (4,50 euros each), but this sandwich was huge !! It is one of the best I ever ate !

Wissant Nightlife

  • by wissantfr Written Jul 18, 2009

When we were in Wissant in July 2009 we found that there was no nightlife at all. Infact the few restaurants available like to close as early as possible. We went to Le Vivier who told us they would close by 8pm, so we tried the Normandy who agreed to let us book a table for 8.15pm ...but that was the very latest. The meal was wonderful, but after that there are no late open cafés or bars in the vicinity. You would have to drive back to Wimereux or Calais for that. However walking along the beach and looking at the lights of Dover was a wonderful experience.

Wissant Sports & Outdoors

  • Walking across the Eurocountry

The département of Pas-de-Calais has formed a Euroregion with its Belgian and British neighbours and, with the EU support, they have set up a network of footpaths, shown on this map.

  • Surf, but not only

Many people go surfing in Wissant, but it is also possible to do other sports on the sand or... in the sky, as this parachutist is doing.

Wissant Favorites

  • A place to stay

Lovely little Town not too far from Calais and has proven a very useful stop over when travelling to and from the UK. A few bars and in season plenty of beach style cafes. Out of season its quite. The festival in late August is well worth the time spent. To avoid, the Municipal Campsite, the facilities are very tired. To enjoy. This part of the north...

  • Dolphin

In Wissant there is this nice dolphin statue to confirm the affection of the locals for their beautiful sea.
