Bring your sweaters as it could be cold in summer on the north part of France like Paris and Dijon. If you are visiting south part like Nice or Marseille, shorts sunglasses, swimsuits, sandals.. Parmarcie could be found everywhere in France You need to have a small bag which can be hidden from sight. Put in your money and passport and carry it everywhere you go. Be careful of thief and pickpocket. Don't travel alone at night by metro and choose the voitures of more of passengers. Don't leave money at hotel! The money is more likely to be stolen in hotel then be robbed on the streets.

Electricity : 220V out of double, round pin wall sockets.Money : Banks and exchange bureaux give better exchange rates for traveller's cheques than for cash; Banque de France offers the best rates in the country. France's ATMs accept all the major international credit and bank cards, and credit cars also get a better exchange rate on purchases Driving : Drivers in France tend to exceed the posted speed limits. On the major highways, service stations are situated every 25 miles or less. Service stations are as plentiful on secondary roads as in the United

Medium sized backpack suited me just fine. In fact, next time I am going to try to fit everything into a large daypack. Wear the same clothes every day. It's just better that way. Rain coat that packs tight and some Chaco sandals and you'll be set. Advil, Sleep Aid, Disposable all the way baby! If you camp, check for ticks first thing in the morning. Crotch and scalp are the two main places to check well. The water just plain sucks compared to the states. Take a film canister or two full of Gatorade powder to drown the bad taste.

A guide book for the city/country that you are visiting is also useful. If you can find one that gives you the address and/or directions to the destination that’s even better. When you go out, have a copy of the address of your hotel with you, if you don’t speak the language, just show the address to the driver.

Before you leave home make two copies of your passport. In case your passport is lost or stolen, having a copy your passport will speed the replacement. Leave one copy at home with you family, and take the other with you. A good place to stash the other copy is inside the lining of your suitcase. ALWAYS keep your passport on your body, except when you are sleeping or showering. In those cases you should place your passport under your pillow or bring it into the bathroom with you, respectively. Many retail stores sell handy bags that you can place around your neck or your waist. These should be worn under your clothing. Carry the bulk of your money in your neck pouch to avoid pickpockets.

Credit cards are a must for traveling. In case of an emergency you can charge any costs. Also, you often get a better exchange rate if you withdraw from an ATM than if you go to a Bureau de Change. One good tip if you do decide to bring credit cards, make twophotocopies of your credit cards, front and back. Leave one at home, and bring one with you ( you can store it with the copy of your passport). Also write the customer service numbers on the copy of the card. In case your credit card is lost or stolen the number will help speed the rate at which you will get a new card.

You can never know too much. Generally the more you read, the more prepared you will be in case something unforseeable happens. Also, just because it looks like home doesn't mean that it is. Keep in mind that you are in a different country with different customsand societal expectations.

One thing that one might not know is that when in, say the Louvre, you cannot use a camera with a flash, so it is necessary to have a camera that you can turn the flash on and off of. Also, unless you're willing to pay several times the normal amount, bring enough film with you.

If you bring any over the counter drugs with you be sure that they are in their original containers and not pillboxes or bags as they might be confiscated. If you bring any doctor prescribed medicines be sure to have a doctor's note for them. They should also be in the original bottle from the pharmacy.
