La Baule-Escoublac Things to Do

  • Casino

Although few are the chances for you to meet Sharon Stone or Robert de Niro in the casino de La Baule, it still is a nice place to gamble. Seriously, even if La Baule is a fashion spot, the casino is nothing to be compared with Deauville's or Monte Carlo's one. Still, you will have fun gambling on the one-armed bandits or at blackjack.Note that it...

  • Enjoy the beach

Come on you are in La Baule, 9 kilometers beach. Main attraction is the beach, huge, ridiculously packed in summer, extremely beautiful. On the beach, you can: tan, tan again, enjoy the 20 degrees water in summer, watch beautiful women in bikini or topless (same goes for men, except they dont wear bikinis), play beach volley, play beach tennis (but...

  • Tumulus

This is a view of the two entrances to the tumulus at Dissignac. The tumulus covers two dolmens, each of which has a corridor measuring 11 meters in length leading into a central chamber. The dolmens were constructed around 4,500 b.c.e. The orientation of the corridors is calculated to observe the rising sun during the winter solstice. The facade...

Derwin is an institution in the region. They make excellent pancakes and the view from the restaurant is amazing. You have a direct view on the Wild Coast (Côte Sauvage), with its rocks and the very animated ocean. Thus, great food and perfect environment makes the place a great restaurant. Only been once recently and tasted the restaurant's mussels, which are served with a cheese sauce. Good and not so expensive.

Info: when we talk about pancake restaurant, that means restaurants that make both salty and sweet pancakes. Dont know if in other countries there are salty pancakes but here it is a local dish, and excellent.

Favorite Dish: Mussels are good but if you have never tried salty pancakes, you should try the pancakes. Local dish and have not seen anyone since now who dislike them.

Never been there but have been told by many friends that it is the best club in La Baule. It is actually @ Pornichet (city next to La Baule). Some famous DJs go there, like David Guetta. Been told the crowd is pretty young - around 18-20 and the prices are high. Anyway, if you want to do some clubbing in La Baule, it is probably the best place to go. Check on http://www.la-grange.com/ for more info.

Dress Code: Dont know but I figure you must be quite well dressed.

  • Niniche

I know to great places to buy "niniches". Manuel is the most famous one (currently in reparation). It is at the end of La Baule main avenue: avenue du General de Gaule and a few meters from the beach. Its a La Baule institution, selling great pastry and obviously the "niniches" are the stars.Pierrot gourmant is also making incredible niniche. Less...

La Baule-Escoublac Sports & Outdoors

  • Surfing

Best local spot is La Govelle, located in Batz sur Mer, a few kilometers from La Baule. Never surfed there and have very few knowledge of surfing but this is the place best know in the region. Nothing to compare with south western waves though, but there you will find the best waves near from La Baule. Note that there are several rocks on the beach...

  • Trip between La Baule and Guerrande

There is a road made only for bicycles between La Baule and Guerrande. This is a great way to go to guerrande and visit surburbs without a car, and the trip is really nice. A good tip is to go to guerrande going throw marais salants to see how salt is extracted from the sea. View is very original. Then visit Guerrande and its typical old town, then...
