Nantes is quite safe compared to other cities where I have lived.
In the city center, I have very rarely seen acts of violence, and you do not feel aggressivity there.
That may be why Nantes is always ranked among the nicest place to live in France.

Nantes seems to have one of the highest number of prostitutes in France. You can see the girls almost every corner of the street.
You can get in trouble if you're trying to take a picture of them.

Be careful when you are around the train station. There seems to be a lot of homeless, drunk, and crazy people. I wouldn't recommend staying in the area too long alone.
