To me, the major advantage of Saint Nazaire is to be located a few kilometers from very nice beaches. From Saint Nazaire, you have access to St Brevin (if you cross the bridge), or hips of other beaches nearby.
By order of appearence: Saint Marc, Sainte Marguerite, Pornichet, Le Poulinguen. Then, it depends on where you go but who can have access to la Cote Sauvage. Anyway, wont talk too much about them here. I will try to make a travel page for each one I know. Here, I will talk about Saint Marc because... I did not find it in the VT search engine. Probably because the city is too small.
Well, I discovered Saint Marc last weekend (10-11 sept 2005) and was really surprised by the beauty of the beaches there. A range of several creeks, where you dont find the crowd you can have on other beaches nearby (eg La Baule).
Oh, by the way, some of them are naturist areas (and one of them is a gay one), so be aware of that... ;)

For those fans of shipping constructions, Saint Nazaire is one France's place to go. Constrcution of the Queen Mary 2 recently and when I went there a big ship was in construction. A friend of mine told me you could visit submarines. Might be a really interesting place to visit.

First time I went there at night, I found the nightlife depressing, since I only saw one bar in the whole city (didnt stay long but enough to see it didnt look like Ibiza!!).
But recently I have heard about a place that seems great: the VIP, with concerts and exhibitions. I have seen it by day and it is located in the harbour in a very original place. I have seen many times the programs and they are very good. For instance, they had a concert from Sonic Youth, which is pretty big for a city of this size!
Talked with people from Saint Nazaire who told me actually many people from Saint Nazaire went out at night in Pornichet and La Baule, some 10-15kms away.

TGV and TER (regional train) linking Nantes-Saint Nazaire-Le Croisic. At least once an hour, probably twice. Fastest train take 30 minutes to do Nantes-Saint Nazaire, longest around 45 minutes. Around 10€ for a Nantes-Saint Nazaire. You can go the other way to to: La Baule and Le Croisic, very beautiful places to see the ocean, swim, relax and eat wonderful seafruits.

Favorite thing: Saint-Nazaire is a famous ship bulding site. The biggest ship in the world was built there! And I saw it! :) You can get down to the coast (and see the bridge) & climb the platforms & check out the ships - pretty cool. :)
Fondest memory: Billiard & darts! :)

Favorite thing: The full-of-cliffs-and-tiny-islands coast is absolutely amazing. Since it's pretty windy, it's a paradise for surfers & all the others. I was just enjoying dipping my feat into the Atlantic... :)
Fondest memory: Just being there made a mark in my life... Unexplainable!
