LA CAVE SAINT ANTOINE is a restaurant in LIGNIERES-DE-TOURAINE (Tél.: 02 47 96 39 87).It was recommended in the Michelin Guide (very renown publication), but it's a tourist trap because of the setting. It's in a cave !We all ordered "pavés". These are normally very thick and juicy steaks. We got a very thin, but double folded steaks which were overcooked. And on top of this we never got our fries. We asked the waitress. She went looking in the kitchen and when she returned she said there were no fries. In a restaurant ! NO FRIES !She gave us bread instead!Come on!They couldn't handle wih our complaints and they became quite nasty and cynical.Ok, we were there on like the 27th of December (between Christmas and New Year's Eve), but it's their job to serve us food with a smile.
We complained. We got no fries and a half baked steak, but we ended up getting a little discount.

Maison de la Magie

Ok, so I didn't actually go inside the House of Magic in Blois...But one look at the fire breathing, moving dragon heads that come out of the windows of the house every so often was enough to put me off.It just screamed "tourist trap".If anyone has actually been inside, I'd love to hear if it was worth the visit. It is located right next to the Chateau de Blois.
Kitsch at Usse
by antoanellarom
At Chateau d`Usse it is permanenty organized an exposition in the towe showing scenes from the Sleeping beauty. All the scenes are recreated with dolls but it is more like kitsch then fairy tale The true atmosphere of the tale can rather be found outside, behind the towers and among the gardens and huge white walls. And especially in the chapel next to the castle
Walk outside because the castle is inhabited but the interior is not so well preserved and will destroy your fantasy imagine Besides is quite expensive because there is a guide who has to be tipped after he tells you in a few words the story of the castle
Admire the huge Lebanese cedars around the castle
Overcrowding
by antoanellarom
The main castles ( Chambord, Blois )are overcrowded during the summer and there is no way of getting impregnated with the atmosphere of another times. Besides this, the big castles such as Chambord are only empty walls - no furniture at all - so they won`t recreate the atmosphere of their glory. Also Chambord is very dirty because the white stone is touched daily by thousands of tourists who eat and drink and touch everything they shouldn`t.
Ignore the crowd !
It so much more worth to visit the smaller and less touristicaly important castles where the medieval air is still alive !
