There are numerous street entertainers all around. Some are singers, ceremonial drummers, story tellers, brass bands, small bands, acrobats, in line roller skaters, you name it, they have it. The best nightlife of all is just wandering around seeing what everyone else is doing. They also have small market stalls selling various souvenirs and fancy goods, jewellery etc.

A great night's drinking at the heart of the city, The General Humbert’s is well worth a look. The atmosphere is lively and convivial with very relaxed and friendly patrons populating the establishment and excellent service provided behind the bar.
Situated near the Old harbour and around the corner from the Aquarium, The General Humbert’s is probably the most popular pub in town and the ideal place to have pint while watching a great match. A place you don't want to miss when in La Rochelle!
Dress Code: No caps, no hats of any kind.

Believe it or not, walking through La Rochelle is entertaining, especially in the Vieux Port area. People in the streets just walk through the city or ride bikes. Just enjoy to be in this safe, pedestrian city.
The city is so elegant, safe and charming that you wouldn't mind walking in it, playing with your own shadow. Plus, I saw some pubs and clubs as well...
A warning though: pay attention not to fall into the water at Vieux port... It happens so many times that people, drivers fall in the water in this area.
Dress Code: La Rochelle is a posh city... It uses to welcome tourists however. Tourists I saw there were like locals... Not the lobster tanned guys with only their shorts as pieces of cloth. No, La Rochelle is not about that.

If you wanna go on La Rochelle by night and find a place to dance, try to find le Mayflower. Sorry i don't remember the address.
There are another place to drink and dance, so you just have to walk near the port and you will find your place !

This was july 14 french national day celebration. There were lots of trational french performances on the streets and just everywhere in the evenings.
