Centuries of chimney soot and a century of automobile exhausts has caused blackening from carbon and erosion from sulfates. While cleaning and restoration are admirable and essential, frustration is the effect upon the innocent sightseer., especially when you know you will neverbe by this way again. Many times , if you knew you would not have arrived there. 15 years ago such information was not available, yet annoyingly at this time, VT sloughs off responsibility for trying to provide such information, except rarely when a sensitive member deigns to proffer it somehow as a Tip or buried in a Forum reply. (Is it more valuable for tourists to look at old or new pictures with no identifications or to see comments submitted as Forum style info in a billboard at each major site to serve as a source of current information from recent travellers?)

Poitiers is quite safe, just on place to avoid in city center is 'Parc Magenta' at night, it's a junkies headquarter! avoid as well the train station alone(at night) and 'Les Couronneries', 'Bel Air' and 'Saint Cyprien' (suburbs), but Beaulieu or St Eloi are very safe
