The Castle ruins.

We parked by the river and walked up the hill to the fortifications above the town. The town extends beyond the castle but not far, there are a few tea rooms but not a lot else.

The Gironde

The mighty Gironde runs across the Charente and through the most famous wine making area in the world, boat trips are reccomended to see this beautiful region and large scenic cruisers stop almost everywhere.

Just along the river, behind us in this picture, there is a picturesque walk along the river where a few small bars open for buisness in the summer. If you drive along the side of the river don`t worry, the road narrows but eventualy it joins a main road again.

Part of the village.

Favorite thing: Once here we quickly found that there isn`t much to do except see the ruins, there are a few cafes in the village but the pace of life is slow and the tourism isn`t all bright lights and neon, the old men of the village still sit by the river fishing and the trains run on old tracks thorough the streets.
