The 12th century abbey of Senanque is located in a valley close to Gordes, so a combined visit to these two places might be a nice idea.

Senanque is one of the standard calender/postcard pictures of the Provence. Many guidebooks as well show a picture of the picturesque abbey with blooming lavender fields in front, making this place a very nice tourist attraction (with, of course, lots of tourist). Unfortunately, we were there late August, so no blooming lavender then, but still a nice place.

Click the other picture to have an idea of how it looks like with blooming lavender.

Really isolate beautiful abbaye niched at the bottom of a valley surrounded with fields of lavender and gardens. Just 4 km North of Gordes, the view from the plateau is quite impressive.
