Hotel and Restaurant epitomises luxurious living at this priviledged place. (Villas surrounding commonly start at 1m eu up to £400m)
The menu at La Reserve says it all - starters around 40 euro, main courses 60-80 euro, dessert 30 euro, then theres the wine...... If this is your usual lunch fare what are you doing here reading pages on VT? If you are looking for somewhere for a one-off "special" ocassion, this is most definitely it.
Arguably one of the most superb villas in the world, with an eleven hectare estate high above Beaulieu overlooking Cap Ferrat is the Villa La Leopolda. One of several villas created by King Leopold of the Belgians for his various mistresses, it was for some years owned by Fiat tycoon Gianni Agnelli, and more recently by the late multi-billionnaire banker Edmond Safra. His widow Lily reputedly sold it to a Russian buyer for £395m though there are stories circulating the buyer dropped out at the last minute. Perhaps it was slightly over his credit card limit.
The usual high gates and cctv, resident security, but here at the tradesman's entrance you can just glimpse a little of the Estate, and imagine the what lies beyond.
Le Beaulieu is THE place to meet and sit and chat and peoplewatch. Everyone seems to know everyone. And the coffee is good
Totally out of my price bracket but reputedly one of the best, to rival Chanteclaire, at the Negresco, .Michael Winner writes about it frequently.
I settled for the menu, which was delicious. Next time I think I might like to try the serviette, with a little oil and vinegar.
One day I promise myself I'll go back and try the food.
